CollegeCountdown is built for families. We take your privacy seriously — especially because families with teens use our platform. Here's exactly what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Account information: Your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
Family profile data: Information you enter about your child — name, enrollment year, target schools, GPA, and college savings goals. This data is yours and stored securely.
Financial account data (via Plaid): When you choose to link a savings or 529 account, we connect through Plaid — a secure, bank-level financial data service trusted by thousands of apps. We never see or store your banking credentials. Plaid uses encrypted connections and industry-standard security. We only receive read-only balance and account-type information — never the ability to move money.
Usage data: Standard app usage logs (pages visited, features used) to help us improve the product. We do not sell this data.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your financial data for advertising. We do not share your child's information with third parties for marketing purposes.
When you connect a savings account, CollegeCountdown uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. to securely retrieve your account balance. Plaid is regulated, audited, and used by major financial institutions. Here's what happens:
Plaid's privacy policy is available at plaid.com/legal.
CollegeCountdown is designed for use by parents on behalf of their college-bound teens. Teen accounts are created by parents or through a parent-issued invite. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at support@collegecountdown.app and we will delete it promptly.
All data is stored in Supabase — an enterprise-grade, SOC 2 compliant database platform. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using TLS. Access to your data is protected by row-level security policies: only you (and your teen, if they've accepted an invite) can see your family's data.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@collegecountdown.app.
